Shepherd Nyakudya is the founder and director of Optus Glean UK (OPTUSGLEAN UK LTD), a British-owned, nationwide commercial cleaning and facilities management company. He also founded the Irish sister company, Optus Glean (OPTUS GLEAN LIMITED, CRO 813541). - TUPE and mobilisation — correct handling of staff transfers under TUPE 2006 when a contract changes hands.
Why I built Optus Glean UK
Facilities managers kept describing the same problem: they could not find a cleaning company that combined consistent quality, proper documentation, vetted staff, and transparent reporting — and could do it across every site they ran, not just one city. The large multinationals were expensive and inflexible; many local operators were undocumented and could not travel. Optus Glean UK is built to be the national alternative: one partner, one standard, everywhere.
The core decision is a workforce one. Most of the market runs on casual or self-employed labour, so the cleaning shift is the first thing dropped when other work appears. We employ our operatives directly, on guaranteed hours, at or above the Real Living Wage, with a named primary cleaner and named relief on every site. That is what makes the service predictable.
The wider group
I also run USLLCGlobal, which helps non-US residents form US LLCs and obtain EINs. Different markets, same discipline: process, compliance, and documentation done properly. The UK cleaning industry has historically under-invested in exactly that — the gap Optus Glean UK closes.
