Day Porter Services

A vetted, uniformed cleaner on site through the working day — keeping reception, washrooms and busy areas continuously presentable, not just cleaned overnight.

A day porter is a cleaner stationed on site during working hours to keep busy areas continuously clean and presentable. Optus Glean UK provides day-porter cover nationwide as a fixed monthly service, using PAYE-employed, DBS-checked staff — a visible daytime presence that reactive, out-of-hours-only cleaning cannot give.

What a day porter does

A day porter keeps the building presentable while it is in use: topping up and checking washrooms through the day, clearing reception and breakout areas, wiping high-traffic touchpoints, dealing with spills and messes as they happen, managing waste, and setting up meeting rooms. Where an overnight clean resets the building once, a day porter holds the standard hour by hour — the daytime complement to night cleaning and daily office cleaning.

Where a day porter adds the most value

Day porters pay off wherever first impressions and hygiene matter during the day: busy corporate reception areas, high-footfall washrooms, retail and shopping environments, and hospitality public areas. They also handle the unpredictable — the spilled coffee, the overflowing bin, the meeting-room turnaround — that an out-of-hours clean simply cannot reach in time.

Day porter vs an out-of-hours clean

The two are complementary, not alternatives. A night clean or early-morning clean does the thorough reset; a day porter keeps that standard visible through trading and working hours. Many of our larger sites run both under one specification, so the building looks cared-for at 3pm as well as at 8am.

Employed, vetted, and part of one contract

Because a day porter is a constant on-site presence, who they are matters. Every porter is PAYE-employed on guaranteed hours and background-checked before assignment (DBS, or Disclosure Scotland / AccessNI), and the role sits inside your wider commercial cleaning contract — one provider, one standard, one invoice, whether you need a porter at one site or across a national estate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a day porter do?
A day porter is a cleaner based on site through the working day, keeping busy areas continuously presentable: checking and restocking washrooms, clearing reception and breakout areas, wiping high-traffic touchpoints, dealing with spills as they happen, managing waste, and setting up meeting rooms. Where an overnight clean resets the building once, a day porter holds the standard hour by hour.
How is a day porter different from the nightly clean?
They are complementary. A night or early-morning clean does the thorough reset while the building is empty; a day porter keeps that standard visible during working and trading hours and handles the unpredictable messes an out-of-hours clean cannot reach in time. Many larger sites run both under one specification.
What kind of sites benefit from a day porter?
Anywhere first impressions and hygiene matter during the day: busy corporate reception areas, high-footfall washrooms, retail and shopping environments, and hospitality public areas. It is most valuable where footfall is heavy and the building is judged on how it looks while occupied, not just at opening.
Are day porters vetted and employed?
Yes. Because a day porter is a constant on-site presence, every porter is PAYE-employed by OPTUSGLEAN UK LTD on guaranteed hours and background-checked before assignment (DBS, or Disclosure Scotland / AccessNI in Scotland and Northern Ireland). We do not use gig or agency labour for the role.
How is day-porter cover priced?
As a fixed monthly fee based on the hours of cover you need and where the porter is based, sits within your wider cleaning contract, and is paid by Direct Debit. Cost is driven by the wage floor (National Living Wage £12.71/hour from April 2026, or the Real Living Wage on many contracts), with 20% VAT added.
