What is data centre technical cleaning?
A data hall is a contamination-controlled environment: airborne and settled dust, fibres and particulate can cause overheating, static discharge and hardware failure. Technical cleaning covers the raised-floor surface, the subfloor void (where cabling and cooling run), the ceiling void, cabinet and server exteriors, and general room surfaces - using anti-static tools, HEPA-filtered vacuums and lint-free materials rather than domestic methods.
Why is anti-static, water-free method essential?
Live IT equipment is intolerant of static discharge and moisture. Operatives use anti-static, low-residue techniques and never introduce water or aggressive chemicals near hardware. Contamination control follows cleanroom-adjacent principles (the ISO 14644 family governs cleanroom air cleanliness) so particulate is captured and removed, not redistributed into the airflow.
How is security and access managed?
Data centres are high-security sites. We supply directly-employed, background-checked operatives who work escorted or under your access-control regime, to agreed permit and out-of-hours windows that avoid disruption to live operations. Every OptusGlean operative is directly employed on PAYE and vetted before their first shift. We DBS-check operatives in England and Wales, and apply the equivalent PVG (Disclosure Scotland) and AccessNI checks in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Where a site involves regulated activity with children or vulnerable adults, an Enhanced DBS (currently £49.50, gov.uk) is used. We never sub-contract to unvetted labour. Consistent, named technical teams reduce the number of vetted individuals entering the facility.
Subfloor voids, cabinets and the office areas around the hall
Beyond the hall itself we clean the associated NOC, offices, welfare and washrooms to a normal commercial standard, keeping that work strictly separate from the controlled data-hall regime. Subfloor void and deep technical cleans are scheduled periodically; surface and cabinet cleaning can run to a tighter cycle depending on your uptime and audit requirements.
Fixed monthly pricing for critical environments
OptusGlean prices every contract as a single fixed monthly fee paid by Direct Debit - never an hourly rate that drifts. The fee is built from the specification agreed at your free site survey, and it already accounts for the wage floor (National Living Wage £12.71/hr from April 2026, or the real Living Wage of £13.45 UK / £14.80 London where a contract requires it), employer’s NI, holiday pay, supervision, consumables, insurance and management. VAT is added at the standard 20%. Colocation and multi-site operators get one nationwide agreement with a consistent technical-cleaning standard and reporting across every facility.
