Silo and tank cleaning is the removal of product residue, caked material, scale or contamination from the inside of a storage silo, tank or vessel — work that is very often a confined space under the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997, because entry, atmosphere and escape are all restricted. Optus Glean UK carries this out to a safe system of work with trained operatives, fully insured, across the UK.
What we clean
Bulk storage silos for powders, grain and dry product; process and storage tanks for liquids, including food, chemical and water-treatment vessels; and mixing, holding and settlement tanks where product build-up or scale affects capacity or hygiene.
Confined space by default
Almost all silo and tank interiors meet the definition of a confined space — restricted entry and exit, and the potential for a dangerous atmosphere or engulfment. We treat every silo and tank job as confined space work unless a specific risk assessment shows otherwise, following the safe system of work, atmospheric testing, and emergency arrangements the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 require. See our confined space cleaning regulations guide for what that involves.
Method and residue disposal
Method is matched to the residue — dry vacuum and manual clearance for powders and caked product, pressure washing or chemical cleaning for liquid residue and scale — and any hazardous or contaminated waste is removed under a licensed waste-carrier arrangement with a full waste-transfer trail, not left as a disposal problem for the site.
Who this is for
Food and drink manufacturers, agricultural and feed stores, chemical and process sites, water treatment and utilities, and any industrial site with bulk storage that needs periodic internal cleaning or inspection access.
