Car rental cleaning is the interior valet, exterior wash and sanitisation of a hire vehicle between one renter and the next — done to a fixed spec and turned around fast enough to keep your returns line moving. Optus Glean UK cleans rental branches and depots UK-wide, including motorhomes and campervans, with PAYE-employed, DBS-checked operatives on fixed monthly pricing across every location.
What does a rental turnaround clean cover?
Every vehicle gets an interior valet — vacuum, seats, mats, door cards, boot, dash and screens — and an exterior wash so the car looks and smells like new for the next renter. Fuel/charge level, tyre pressures and washer fluid are checked as part of the same visit where agreed with the branch, alongside the clean itself.
This sits alongside, not instead of, your wider fleet servicing. For the general valeting and periodic deep-clean work that keeps commercial vehicles presentable day to day, see our vehicle & fleet cleaning service — this page is specifically about the branch handover-to-handover turnaround that rental operations run on.
How is the vehicle sanitised between renters?
Because each vehicle passes through a stream of unrelated drivers, touch-point disinfection is treated as standard rather than optional: steering wheel, gear selector, door handles, seatbelt buckles, infotainment screen, and any shared key fob or card reader. Products are used to their COSHH assessment and colour-coded cloths keep interior touch-point work separate from wheel and exterior tasks.
Where a branch wants a visibly documented standard for every handover — for example after an illness report on a returned vehicle — we can also bring in a fogging pass; see sanitisation, disinfection & fogging.
Fitting the clean to your returns line
Rental turnaround lives or dies on flow: a car has to come off the returns line, be cleaned, and be ready for the next check-out without becoming the bottleneck. We agree the workflow with the branch — where cleaned vehicles wait, how keys move between the returns desk, the valet bay and the dispatch point, and which bays are used at peak versus quiet periods — and build the cleaning slot around that, not the other way round.
Turnaround SLAs and staffing are set against your actual branch volumes and fleet mix at quote stage, rather than a generic per-car time, because a small city branch and a large airport depot run very different flows.
Cleaning for a clear handover, not a damage assessment
A clean vehicle makes existing damage visible at handover — scuffs, marks and chips are far easier for your staff to spot and log on a dirty car. Our teams clean to a standard that supports your check-in/check-out inspection; they do not assess, adjudicate or document damage themselves. Damage assessment and any charge decision remain entirely your branch team's process — we simply make sure the car is clean enough for that process to work properly.
Keys and valet-bay logistics
Keys and fobs change hands constantly on a rental site, so we work to whatever key-control process the branch already runs — key cabinet, tagged board, or handover directly from the returns desk — rather than holding vehicle keys ourselves outside the clean. Valet-bay space, water and power points, and access hours are agreed at survey so cleaning fits around your busiest check-in and check-out windows instead of competing with them.
Motorhome and campervan hire turnaround cleaning
Motorhome and campervan hire turnarounds are a different job to a standard car valet, and we run them as a distinct service line. Habitation areas — kitchen units, hob and sink, seating that converts to beds, upholstery and soft furnishings — are cleaned and reset alongside the cab, and fresh bedding/linen is handled where the hire includes it.
Fresh and waste water systems need particular care: fresh water tanks are drained, rinsed and refilled following the operator's own procedure, and waste and chemical toilet cisterns are emptied and cleaned to the disposal point the depot already uses — we work to the manufacturer's and depot's process rather than imposing our own. Because these units take longer to reset than a car, we agree realistic turnaround windows for motorhomes and campervans separately from the car-hire fleet at survey stage.
One contract across every branch
Rental operators are rarely single-site. We run branch and depot cleaning under one national agreement through multi-site cleaning and national account management — one specification, one account manager and one invoice, whether that is a handful of city branches or an airport-led national network. If you also run a taxi, PHV or wider corporate fleet alongside rental stock, see taxi & private hire fleet cleaning and our fleet managers hub for how we bring that under the same contract.
